Scam artists at Surf City Nissan, LA
by Wamiq Sattar from San Diego, Ca | December 30, 2019

PLEASE READ THIS DETAILED REPORT ON SURF CITY NISSAN AT HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA: BUYERS BEWARE! I am changing my previous review of the dealership. Surf City Nissan defrauded me! I bought a 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sports on December 21, 2019. I drove from San Diego to this dealership. Not sure if the distance from my home to the dealership had anything to do with this swindle I was pulled into it. I was not informed that the Surf City Nissan was installing ELO GPS tracking system on the car, until the last moment I was leaving, towards the end of the day. Land Rover has its own Android Apps, which allows you to do many different things remotely on the vehicle, including tracking, remote start, etc. After I returned, I could communicate with the dealership folks, except via email and had to leave several, several phone messages. The finance manager finally called me at an odd time on Dec. 27th and left a message to call him back. I called him back; he answered and told me that he will call back in a minute. Well, that minute expanded till now (7:00 AM Dec. 30, 2019). The sales representative, Bryan M., told me that the ELO GPS tracking system was for $1200. I told him that I did not know about it and wanted the dealership to refund me the cost for this unauthorized item attached to my car... which anyone in the ELO GPS fleet system can track. That is when I realized the SCAM this dealership pushed onto me. On top it the dealership went and charged additional US$2000 on my American Express card (which was to be drawn on/or after January 10, 2020, per written documentation/agreement); right after I told Bryan that I want my money back or I will have to stop payment on the American Express card. Another finance manager, Jay G., talked to me and told me that they made a mistake of submitting the charges on Dec 26, 2019 and would reverse the charges and wait until Jan 10, 2020. I checked with the ELO GPS and found out that in order to use the Apps (from the Google Play Store); I need the registration CODE for the gadget attached to my vehicle. The dealership, Surf City Nissan, was supposed to send the registration to ELO GPS and immediately I would receive the code, emailed by ELO GPS to my email address. Well, a week has gone by and I have not received any such registration code from ELO GPS, as Surf City Nissan never sent my registration to ELO GPS, and further send the code to me for operating the Apps. One of the document on ELO GPS states that in order to use the ELO GPS tracking system, I will need to pay a monthly fee of US $14. An additional hidden cost pushed on to me by Surf City Nissan. Therefore, I have a “dud” ELO GPS tracking system installed on my vehicle, which costed me US $1200. I am very dissatisfied with Surf City Nissan of LA (Huntington Beach) of handling the sale of car to me, not returning the calls, swindling me, defraud me, Finance department not returning my calls and making false and empty promises. I will report this to the BBB and to the Commissioner of Automotive, State of California. A dozen or more complaints are there at BBB on Surf City Nissan. This dealership needs to be honest with its customer.
