Do not recommend - buyers beware!
by Sophia Holman from Los Angeles | December 18, 2020

Very disappointed. Was initially excited about Shift. They have great online marketing which is how I heard of them. They sell used cars that are mostly from lease turn ins or trade ins. Went to one of the lots of theirs in LA twice to look at cars and test drive. The concierge were great. Not pushy at all and definitely not like a typical dealership just trying to get a quick sale. I was however, being CONSTANTLY contacted by the advisors from the offices several times a day about buying a vehicle. Great follow up but no need for multiple calls multiple times a day. When I finally decided on a car and put a deposit down, they sent me over to a finance person about my purchase and getting everything set up. I was purchasing the car in cash without any financing and he kept trying to push me into certain things. Falsely told me that the additional warranty had to be bundled (this was misinformation) falsely told me the wrong expiration dates (said the additional warranty was good for 4 years and unlimited amount of miles which wasn't true) and then did not send me the paperwork before setting up the delivery date. He said the concierge who delivers will give me everything but these documents should be sent and reviewed beforehand! The next day the vehicle was delivered. I go to sign off on the documents and find out they are charging me almost $10k MORE than what the final breakdown was when discussed. Total bait and switch! It was also the first time ever seeing any of the documents - which I am almost sure is a violation of the TILA/Fair Lending Laws. I went through it and saw that the warranty they told me I could put on a payment plan - they were trying to charge me in full upfront. On top of that, found out that there was a mileage requirement to the warranty (when they stated it was not). End up spending over 2 hours of my time trying to get everything settled. The concierge contacted the finance manager who contacted me and proceeded to try to blame everyone (myself, my father, the concierge) but himself. He also was very rude which is completely unacceptable. Finally once everything was semi-sorted, I paid for the vehicle in which they once again didn't inform me I had to have $500 OVER the amount I needed to pay for the vehicle in my account in order for the payment to go through. Once I finally purchased the vehicle I noticed the car had taco meat and cheese in the car, there was a dead bee on the floor - it definitely was not washed. In addition, I found out the navigation and the screen was not working and they had my whole car covered with "Shift" stickers and advertisement I could not remove. Are they planning on paying me for advertising their company? They really need to clean and remove everything BEFORE delivering the vehicle. A manager did call to try to see what happened with the finance manager and offered me a gift card for all the inconvenience (to what amount, when it should be received - who knows if it was even sent). After several days of trying to get ahold of them about the issues with my car, I finally got ahold of them. They picked up the car and said they would fix it yet it has been a week and not one contact from any of them about the status of my car. Basically I paid for a lemon and they haven't given me an update or my money back and now I don't have a vehicle. I have tried to call them over 10 times, sent multiple emails, and no one is responding to my calls, emails, or voicemails. Just completely unprofessional and now I am down $25k and without a vehicle and any contact. I would highly recommend going somewhere else more credible, more professional, and better communication. It is not worth your money, time, and energy to deal with this stress.

    What a cluster!!
by Lori Reyburn from El Cajon, CA | September 13, 2020

What a total mess!! I phoned Shift this morning, interested in a 2010 red BMW. I was paying cash, and spoke with George. We went through the process and it was to be shipped to San Diego on Monday. He explained the deposit feature since I lived so far from where the car was. He was to email me with the link so I could put down the deposit and I would purchase on Monday after rest driving it. THATS NOT HOW IT WENT!!! I checked my email and spam for the link. Around 1pm, approx an hour AFTER I had been off the phone and waiting on my email, I was told that the car was now unavailable due to someone else putting a deposit on it. Then I received my email and hit the link, the car showed unavailable. Now when I was asking about and filling out the paperwork with George, it was listed as available. I double....no TRIPLE checked!!! Then do you think George even called or any customer service rep for that matter, to inform me the car was now under deposit??? xxxx TO THE NO!!! I would've given George my card info for the deposit but he led me to believe all was good and no worries, that when the email came I could put down the hold deposit. What a way to treat a customer!! Won't b going that route again!! The car I'd been searching for for almost a year, gone before I could blink my eyes!!

    Effortless Purchase
by Angie from the Valley from Studio City, CA | July 17, 2019

I was hesitant at first, but they were quick to respond! The driver at Shift who brought the vehicle for the test drive was great, very professional, but low pressure. Everything checked out on the test drive so I ended up purchasing the vehicle on the spot.

Ad Not truthful about Vehicles True Condition
by Unhappy Camper from Anaheim, CA | January 18, 2019

Not truthfull about the True Condition of the vehicles they sell Car had undisclosed and costly to repair Rear Bumper Damage (Nearly $1K) and a Broken Keyless remote ($320 to Replace) No mention of any of this in their Listing for the vehicle So much for their "150+ Point Inspection process"....Lol, Its Laughable mistakenly trusted that their listing would be a truthful and honest representation of the vehicles Condition Guess they figure once you have car home, U Wont bother to go thru hassle of Returning It. Unwilling to resolve issue amicably. Substandard Customer Service, My Recommendation? Take your business elsewhere

    Most rude and indifferent dealer
by Tung Ming from Los Angeles | January 23, 2018

They are always going to pay less than they promised, and if anything doesn't work out as smoothly and eazy for them, they will say, "we don't want to do business with you, cause you don't make our life easy."
