High Pressure sales and lying...Stay away!
by Michael P. from Los Angeles | October 09, 2020

In my search for a new vehicle, I came across great reviews for Honda of Pasadena. As a member of the Honda family for many generations, with over a half dozen Honda's owned in my lifetime, I decided to give HOP a call to confirm a few Honda Fit's inventories. I Called this past Saturday morning and spoke with Brian L. and he was helpful with confirming they were on the lot. I scheduled test drives to check the vehicles out for later in the day. Upon arriving in my Honda Element I was greeted and shown the vehicles and asked if I would be trading in. It was insisted upon several times while we were looking at the vehicles that an appraisal was free. What the heck, let's do it. Note, I was very reluctant to even mention I was open to trading in my vehicle because of the age and mileage of my Element. The private party for this niche vehicle is much higher than what they would give me any day...we both knew this. Fast forward to the post-test drive, one vehicle was in fantastic shape and had lower mileage, but the color was not ideal. No worries, my plan was just to look anyway, and I was very clear up till this point. I was asked to sit down and share my feelings on the car and naturally talk price. This is where the tone changes completely, it went from small talk to " what is it going to take to get you in this vehicle today"? The high-pressure sales pitch had started, and at the forefront of the conversation was the appraisal and findings for my personal vehicle. I was immediately told that my vehicle was salvage, due to an accident, and they would take it as a trade-in towards the purchase of a new vehicle but it would be worth very little due to the /accident/ salvage title. This was a family vehicle before I purchased it with two or three owners total and the vehicle was never in an accident.....I knew this for certain. This immediately became a red flag and I asked to see the Carfax they stated had been run on my personal vehicle. Fast forward five more minutes of back and forth high-pressure BS sales talk, and no Carfax to confirm the VIN and that this was indeed true. I stopped the conversation and said that I'm not talking further until I see the Carfax and this is when it all went South. Brian proceeds to show me a five-page Carfax in which the title of the vehicle is not salvaged and the only mentionable item on the CARFAX is at an oil change place in 2019 where a clerical error was made on the mileage. I'd assume someone who does this for a living knows the difference between a salvage car that has been in an accident and a clerical error. After about 30 seconds of clarifying this, I immediately got up and started this conversation was overdue to the obvious lying. As I walked out the gentleman, Clark ( stated a manager), who did the appraisal on my vehicle still had my keys, I asked for my keys back in which case he did not present them to me but proceeded to talk about the Carfax and further double down on the lying. I immediately stopped him and said I wanted my keys back this instant and naturally turned rude after the first request for my vehicle keys were not handed back. The amount of disgust with these people is enough for me to never recommend this dealership and tell everyone on my car forums and the general public What to expect when dealing with HOP. It's obvious that the xxxxxxx lying and deceitful practices still run rampant. It's truly a shame for anyone who has been taken advantage of. I will never consider or return to this dealership for any business dealings whatsoever.

How many different ways can you lose a customer?
by Michael Vance from Burbank, Ca | May 20, 2020

We came in to get a car for my wife. We ahd an appointment, but had to wait. The guy we had an appointment with was busy, so he passed us off to someone else. He showed us some cars. The one we liked the best had a dent on the fender, even though it was supposed to be new. We test drove it anyway and generally liked it. We were shown into a bungalow by the sales guy and he told us about some of the Costco pricing on the model we liked. He said he had one at a lot at Santa Anita without dents. He left us there supposedly to put us in there system and figure out how much a lease would be. We waited about 20 plus minutes. We were hungry and tired of being disrespected, so we left. Someone called, supposedly a manager. we asked him to text the lease amount. He said something about coming back. He never sent a text. How many different ways are there to lose a customer? I think they found practically every one of them. I recommend you look elsewhere if you want a car.

    Sales Manager
by Cameron from Ontario, CA | December 21, 2019

The stars reflect my thoughts of this dealership. When you walk in you’re initially unimpressed by the shabby and dilapidated facilities: dirty floors, old desks, and tiles hanging loose from the ceiling. The initial salesman, Alex, who helped me was nice, courteous and informative. He was the one positive of this night. I have nothing negative to say of him. However, when it came time to deal he seemed reluctant to have me speak with his sales manager. I understood why shortly after. When I approached this manager’s desk, he was seated behind his computer, in his suit, clicking away on his mouse and keyboard, apparently too busy to talk with his customer, which communicated he did not seem to think I worthy of his time. He did not stand up when I approached, nor did he shake my hand, nor did he look me in the eye for about the first two minutes I was there. His demeanor was cool and disinterested, and his face barely left his computer. Until he had a few things to say. The first was his “lecture” as to what a “good deal” really entails, which he seemed to give to not so subtly convey I didn’t truly understand a good deal, since I was only concerned with getting the best price for the car I was interested in purchasing. The second was his “assertion,” given within the context of our conversation of dealing for the car under consideration, that their dealership is not a “cash oriented,” heavy handed one, but one which is founded upon respect and relationships. I nearly burst with laughter, given the irony of that statement situated in the “conversation” that the two of us were having, which seemed to have escaped him. The furthest thought from my mind was my amazement with the respectful and friendly “air” that so freely exuded from him. Suffice to say, I left shortly thereafter and would not, and will not return again. I will not be recommending any of those I care for, ney even those whom I don’t particularly care for, to frequent this ill-formed establishment.

    Great Car Buying Experience
by Martin from Alhambra, CA | February 21, 2019

From start to finish, our car buying experience at Honda of Pasadena was outstanding! We never felt pressured. We always felt supported. Mo and Edwin were awesome as they helped us through the car selection and financing process. We truly appreciated being treated as a real customer and not just somebody else buying a car. Thank you Honda of Pasadena for making this an enjoyable experience!
