Horrible
by Deanna from San Antonio TX | February 01, 2020I was at carmax yesterday to see what they would give me for the Land Rover I bought in November, yes I've had it for only 2 months. It almost left me stranded while driving from San Antonio to Florida to see my family during the holidays. I couldn't shut it off the entire time because I was afraid the battery would die. Which I had to replace when I got to Florida. I have yet to see any reimbursement money from that. It's been in the shop 4 or 5 times and I just picked it up yesterday after they had it for 2 weeks. They gave me standard textbook appraisal and that leaves me about 9k upside down. I asked them if I could just be free from the vehicle considering all the issues I've had to include a coolant leak where they had to replace the radiator. So needless to say, this was my 2nd vehicle I bought from them and it will be my last. Carmax vehicles are also WAY overpriced when you look at other dealers in the area. A 2016 4Runner will run you 26k with 60k miles compared to the same vehicle with 30k miles for the same price. Be aware. I'm disappointed.

by Angela Sturk from San Antonio Texas | November 16, 2019I’ve traded two vehicles with Carmax in San Antonio and I must say I’m very impressed with their customer service and their time that they give to the consumers. Patrick Burrows has been an amazing sales associates and I would recommend him to anyone that is wanting to trade in their vehicle

by Chris from San antonio, tx | June 24, 2019Wife and son have been looking for quite awhile for a solid used car. Finally settled on a vehicle from Carmax off I-35. As soon as my son pulled up in the vehicle i could tell there was a problem with the car. Paint looked good but you could tell the car had been repainted. Wider than normal gap on a couple spots on drivers side which was first sign that car was in prior accident. Sales rep represented the car with a clean title and no prior accidents. Put car on lift and you could see the overspray and where parts underneath had been hammered out from prior damage. The car had been hit from front and back. Not sure how car had a clean title but something shady is going on. And how the dealership did not catch this when they are the professionals is beyond me. I spotted the problems in 15 seconds. They should have known the car had prior damage by the looks and to then make an excuse that they didnt know. Lies and deceit! My guess is Carmax finds cars with clean titles and if they can be fixed, they fix them and to not report it as being wrecked or they buy cars from a place that does this and sells to Carmax. Either way, a dealership and people that deal with cars should know what to look for. Only good that came of it was they took the car back and my son got the car of his dreams for about $100 less. First and last time that any of my family will deal with a Carmax again.

by Susie from Jourdanton Tx | January 15, 2017I happened to view the sight and seen 3 cars to my liking. I was called immediately. Danny K actually got the ball rolling and transferred the vehicle from A to B in less then a week. My husband and I were just going to see the car and fell in love. We drove her home that night. The process was extremely quick.

by Unsatisfied Customer from San Antonio, Texas | April 19, 2013I thought I had found my dream car but after owning it for only a little over a year, my dream car has become a nightmare. It has had at least 4 major repairs since I drove it off the lot. Their service plan is a joke. You may think that you are getting a great deal by paying a flat rate for services....if they even cover the repair, but their service department is constantly booked for at least 1-2 weeks, so don't expect to get your car into their shop for at least 1 1/2 weeks. Once they have your car they take days before even "opening a ticket" on your vehicle and beware! Though the plan covers a rental at $40/day, they won't pay for it until they start work on your car AND decide to keep it overnight. The fact that you have a job and family that require you to have transportation doesn't really matter to them. Also, when picking up your vehicle make sure they actually made the repairs you took it in for. To my surprise after getting my vehicle back, I discovered that they included repairs on the close out ticket that weren't even done. When I called them back to inform them of this, they said we don't have any open appointment times until next week. It didn't register with them that the right thing to do would have been to take my vehicle in timely and remedy the problem they contributed to. This was even after I reminded them that one of the items they failed to fix and stated they had, could result in fines for me if I continued to drive the car. They offered no rental or apology and reiterated that there were no open appointments. They also attempted to charge me when I brought the car back. I actually had to argue with the staff as the items needing to be fixed were already billed to me the last time. The CSR I dealt with was so rude, I had considered reporting him to his Supervisor, but he had the items repaired at no additional cost and within a fair time frame. All in all CarMax on Fountainhead Drive appears to be a customer oriented wonderful place to purchase your next vehicle, but once the ink has dried on your contract and you are officially indebted to them, you will find that you are just somebody they feel they can take advantage of if you don't know any better. I recommend looking elsewhere and if you must purchase there take a mechanic with you to make sure you're not buying a lemon!

by Lux Shopper from San Antonio, TX | November 12, 2012Their prices are almost always higher than a comparable car at a dealership, and they don't negotiate. They also won't let you test drive the car alone like dealerships will, so it's hard to have a frank discussion about the car during the test drive. The quality of the pictures they take at the local dealership has gone way down.
