    Laking Transparency Using Greasy Tactics
by SteveR from San Leandro | August 04, 2019

Just picked up a used CR-V from this dealership and hoping to help some people out by posting the details of my experience here. I worked with James Trenner. He was helpful and friendly and the reason for the second star. But that is where the positive aspect of the experience ends.I made an offer (a little below NADA clean retail) and Jim came back with a number $300 higher, then $100 higher. As I justified my offer due to the car needing new tires soon, the sales manager (can't recall his name) began to quibble over $50 and suggested we split the $100 difference. This is when things got awkward. I've bought and sold A LOT of vehicles over the years and never had someone go after $50 so hard. I agreed, but remarked this was not a winning strategy on the survey sheet provided to me. No big deal. Then things got interesting. When they filled out the offer sheet, there were 2 fees listed that would determine the OTD price: $80 doc fee and ~$350 for REGISTRATION (I assumed it must not have been recently renewed). I thought this was all pretty straight forward, so I didn't look the numbers over closely, nor did the finance manager go over them specifically. When I was getting in the car, I realized the registration was good until August 2020. So I assumed that meant the registration fees would not have been charged - NOPE! Instead they chewed up that number with a $50 smog fee, $30 registration transfer fee, $15 registration transfer fee and $8.25 smog fee. What a sleazy tactic to weasel a few bucks out of your customers! I had come from a different dealership earlier (Kuni) and the difference in experience was night/day. I realize the vast majority of future customers will not see this review. But for those that do and still purchase a vehicle, don't let them add a bunch of bogus fees on your deal - hold them to what you agree to and don't let them get rid of the notes on the offer sheet! (I asked them for the notes and was told they are shredded every night for privacy reasons; in fact they wouldn't even give me a blank one to look over). For the dealership: I have to believe the goodwill generated by transparency has a higher value than your sleazy tactics to nickel and dime your customers. I regret not being more diligent when signing the final documents and wish I would have taken my business somewhere else. I did get a nice car, though.

    Genesis G80
by Jeff M in Lincoln from Lincoln, Ca | May 24, 2019

I bought 2 vehicles in a week from this dealership. First one was a Hyundai Tuscon and the second a Genesis G80. My entire experience was fantastic! Nic, our sales person was very professional and courteous and actually came in on his day off once we finalized the pricing with Jimmy G and lease terms with Ed to prep and deliver our car. All three were easy to work with and quite honestly a pleasurable experience all the way around. Would highly recommend you seek out these folks at Folsom Lake Hyundai.

    New car shopping
by Don Wilson from El Dorado Hills, CA. | November 25, 2016

Wife and I started shopping process for a new hybrid car. Went to look at the new Hyundai Sonata hybrid. Young Hispanic saleslady greeted us and helped us find the one they had left on the lot. She took our information and went to get the keys so we could go on a test drive and see how we liked it. When she came back a short stocky Asian sales manager was with her. He asked us how soon we would buy a car and we said we had just started the process and it could take us up to a year to figure out which one we wanted. He gave a very high pressured pitch to try and get us to buy the car that day even know they hadn't even unlocked it yet. Because it was Black Friday he said they were too busy to let a sales person deal with someone who wasn't going to buy a car that day because, " my sales people work on a commission and I want to help them get their Christmas bonus. " He asked us to come back when we were ready to buy but they wouldn't help us today because we were just looking. That was all sad as politely as he could say it, but the bottom line was he said his sales people were too busy to deal with someone that wasn't going to buy that day. As my wife and I walked back to our car a little in shock, we saw the girl that helped us and two other salesman just standing around in the lot. I told the sales manager as he walked away from me that I would not return to the dealership and he would not earn my business I would go to a different Hyundai dealer. All of this was said politely, but again the bottom line was we were blown off. We went to a Honda dealership, a Toyota dealership and a Volkswagen dealership and were treated very well. Unfortunately the person who owns this Hyundai dealership also owns the one in Roseville, Stockton, and Antioch California so we will have to drive a ways if we decide to buy the Hyundai. We own a Hyundai Veracruz and have brought it to this Hyundai dealership for servicing since we moved to the area three years ago and had been satisfied with the way we were treated by the service department. Unfortunately, we will now find somewhere else to go for servicing our hon Day Veracruz . I was very disappointed and have never been treated like that at a car dealership before. I actually think my wife liked the Sonata well enough and the price well enough that she would have bought the car today.

My experience was very positive with Folsom Lake Hyundai. There was no high pressure selling, staff was experienced, and friendly. Leasing my new Elantra was a very positive experience, and I would recommend this dealership to everyone.

    2013 Tucson
by Done in RC from Rancho Cordova, AC | January 19, 2015

This dealer is probably average when you consider car dealers. Most of the people with which I dealt were very nice, after all, they are trying to sell you something. I feel the purchase of my Tucson was efficient and average from what I would expect of a reputable dealer. With just over 7000 miles on the Tucson, I had planned on upgrading to a Genesis. I worked with the "powers that be" to make this happen and was quite surprised at what happened. This dealership wanted to discount my Tucson 57% as a trade-in after only 7000 miles. That is a truly great deal - for the dealer. Needless to say, this was one sale they missed. Judging by how much this dealer depreciates their product, I will certainly not be a repeat customer and will be highly suspect of the Hyundai brand from any dealer.
