    So far so good
by Mike from KY | February 09, 2020

Talked to Stephanie on the phone and through text. She was able to give me all the info I needed and was very friendly. Called a few days later to pay the shipping fee up front to order my new truck.

The Best Buying Experience I've ever had
by Car shopper lady from Lexington | January 20, 2020

Matt and Hunter at Carmax really made this the best experience for me. Matt worked with me through phone and email up until the day I went in. He was very informative and assisted me through the entire process. Hunter was the salesman I worked with when I went in. He was accommodating and polite. I didn't feel the "pressure" of a sales man at all. And he was very professional. I will recommend this dealer to anyone I know looking to buy a vehicle.

Good experience if they matched trade-in offers
by coffeeandchocolate from Lexington, KY | October 07, 2019

I am in the market for a 3 row SUV with a V6 but past that I have no idea what make or model I'm most interested in. Hoping to narrow my search, I went to our local CarMax to test drive a variety of vehicles. You park outside the lot and must walk through the dealership to access the vehicles. Didn't know that an appointment is recommended (but not necessary) as I've never shopped here before but since we didn't have an appointment, they put us on a short waiting list and we browsed their lot while waiting for someone to come available. About 15 minutes later, they called me from inside to let me know a rep was available. He was very polite and easy to talk to - seemed very genuine and was patient as I test drove 4 different cars even knowing that I wasn't likely to purchase anything that day. The cleanliness of the cars I test drove was pretty disappointing - crumbs everywhere and one had a drink that had been spilled down the dash and made some of the buttons sticky or even unable to be used. I can't believe they try to sell cars like that. While I was test driving, they valued my trade-in and before I left they gave me their offer which was significantly lower than other offers I'd already received. I asked if they would match another offer if I were to decide to purchase from CarMax and the rep said that they're not allowed to do that because they don't artificially inflate their "no haggle" vehicle prices like other dealers. That's all well and good except their prices are no better than other dealerships - they seem to be right in the middle of the pack actually from my online research. Granted, I didn't check everything but this is what I found for the type of vehicle I'm interested in. So, why should I purchase here when I can go to another dealer who will match my trade-in offer and sell me a vehicle at a similar price to CarMax? So, in summary, CarMax has a new and somewhat refreshing method to car buying that avoids the awkward sales rep meetup in the lot which I appreciated. However, don't expect the cars to be clean and when it comes down to it, they use the same negotiation tactics that any other dealer uses (lack of authority, good cop bad cop, etc). I don't think they're trying to game anyone, so you'd be safe coming here if you don't like haggling but you won't be getting a great deal either.
