BOB PENKHUS DEALERSHIP IS A HOME FOR 39 YEARS
by Alexander Soifer from Colorado Springs | November 30, 2019

Bob Penkhus is the greatest dealer I have ever met. He created atmosphere that feels like family. And it was a family for me for ca. 39 years and a dozen cars and counting. Bruce Leyva is a fantastic Volvo sales manager, knowledgeable, kind, and caring. Eric conrad is a great mechanic. Bud Hall is a fine service-parts manager. To paraphrase Lee Iacocca, if you can find a better dealership, go there!

    Subpar service all around
by Crystal from Colorado Springs, CO | October 21, 2019

Summary: From the sales department to the service department, the customer service at this dealership is subpar at best. For the past 28 days, ever since I purchased a Volkswagen, everyone - from the service managers to the sales and general managers - have treated me like I’m not worthy of their time and that if they just ignore me I will go away. After purchasing my vehicle, I left it with the dealership so that they could install roof racks that I purchased along with the vehicle. I was told the vehicle would be ready for pickup on Thursday afternoon, so I called Wednesday evening to confirm I’d be there Thursday. At this point, I learned that the service department had discovered an issue with the turbo during a test drive on MONDAY. No one ever thought to contact me between Monday and Wednesday to discuss what I would like to do. Instead, they stated they would be keeping the car for at least another week to work on it. I asked for a loaner car during this time and was told that none were available. Despite being completely in the dark, and only being able to squeeze vague and confused answers from my salesperson, I waited patiently for another 8 days before I demanded a solid answer on when the vehicle would be ready for pickup. I was finally able to pick it up 15 days after purchase and was told that it was in good condition and ready to drive. The next morning, on my way to work, the car broke down and became completely inoperable. Mind you, this was less than 20 hours after I picked it up. After getting it towed to the dealership, I begged for a loaner car, and was reluctantly given a trade-in that had a crack in the windshield, the front bumper hanging off, and less than a ¼ tank of gas. I was also told that by taking the loaner car, I was driving illegally because of the dealer plate. I later found out that this was untrue, but this demonstrates just one of the ways they chose to intimidate me throughout this entire ordeal. While my car was in the shop the second time, I made several attempts at contacting managers to find out what the diagnosis was, what the estimated timeframe for repair might be, and other minor questions. I left several voicemails, all of which were never returned or acknowledged. When I was finally able to pick up the car again, I had to beg a manager to fill up the tank of gas considering they had drained it to half a tank in all their test drives. I finally drove the car off the lot 22 days after purchase, for what I hoped would be the last time. Unfortunately, 3 ½ days later, the check engine light came on again. I’ve made attempts at contacting both salespeople and managers since then, with yet again, no success. It’s clear to me that the entire team at Bob Penkhus does not appreciate my business, does not value my time and money, and does not care for my safety on the road.

    Severely Disappointed
by John M from Colorado Springs, CO | April 14, 2019

I dropped my car off at Bob Penkus VW on 8 Apr for multiple issues. I had asked the service advisor if there were any discounts I could get since I was looking at almost $600, the response? “Look online.” One major issue I brought it in for was a grinding in the front end (like front axle) that I had brought it in for a previous 2 times and they replaced different parts but the noise was still there. So, I was charged $135 for a noise I’ve brought in repeatedly and they said it may be “roof supports” although the noise is in the lower front-end. I was charged $89 for a front-end alignment as my car pulled to the right. AFTER they “aligned” it they stated they can’t adjust the “toe” because that would take another $200 and the car STILL pulls to the right and their response was “it’s straighter.” So, either they didn’t know enough about a VW they work on to say they can only partially adjust it or they deceptively did the minimum and charged me the maximum. On the alignment I had requested prior to the work that I get the measurements before and after so I could take it back to Big O where they supposedly aligned it (tracked straight before, not after their “alignment”) but VW gave me some illegible copies that you can’t read the measurements on, so I don’t have the measurements and I’m out $89 and it still tracks the same. Their ”WorldClass Inspection” noted my tires were at 10/32’s, but the tires are brand new, so either they are lazy or don’t know how to measure. I called Fri afternoon to see the status of my car and left a message, but received a call back about 5:15 (too late to go get my car) stating it was done. When I picked up the car on 15 Apr, the rear brakes made a serious grinding noise when going forward and backwards. I pulled it back into the bay and was told I should “replace the rear rotors” which wasn’t even mentioned in their “WorlClass Inspection.”

    Disappointed
by Disappointed Client from COLORADO SPRINGS, CO | April 12, 2019

I was interested in purchasing a 2019 VOLKSWAGEN. However, the vehicle had a recall when I visited the dealership. Ben was my sales consultant. He stated that he would contact me once the vehicle was repaired. It's been almost 2 weeks with no contact or updates. I decided to take my business else where.

Mark Skinner Provided Excellent Service Experience
by Cynthia from La Junta, CO | January 08, 2019

After having some difficulty finding the dealership, I was not in a good mood when I hit the door for my service. Mark immediately turned that sour puss around by taking my concerns about a strange noise in my 2015 Mazda CX 5 Grand Touring seriously. He confirmed that he heard the noise as well, and he let the experts diagnose the problem. As my local mechanic suspected, it was the transmission: that’s a fluke because Mazdas usually have outstanding transmissions. Mark found me a great loaner while my transmission is being replaced. He was courteous, knowledgeable, communicative, and helpful. I feel secure that he will get the job done correctly.

Promised a new car experience, given a used car ex
by Lei from Colorado Springs | September 06, 2018

Disappointed with our purchase. Promised a new car experience that just didn't happen. I've purchased new vehicles before, this by far has been a horrible experience. Took a brand new vehicle in to fix issues 1 month into purchasing and still some issues that were not fully addressed and I've had the car for only about 1 week because it sat at the dealership. Had them fix issues twice, the third time I've given up. If they can't get it straight the 2nd time then they won't get it straight the 3rd time. Came in to purchase a brand new vehicle but felt like I purchased a used one at a new vehicle price. Settled for this vehicle because I was promised a new car experience that has not met my expectations. I've purchased numerous new vehicles and this was not a new car experience. This has been the worst vehicle purchase I have ever made.

They have excellent service here. Chris went out of his way to help remedy the problem I had with my car. I would give them more stars if I could. Never a problem at bob penkus in motor city.

    Horrible service
by LookingforacarDW from Colorado Springs, CO | May 13, 2018

Went to check out a vehicle that I found on cars.Com. The salesman set up an appointment with me after I showed interest through the site. I arrived at the appointment, the salesman was busy with clients and instead of passing the sale to another salesman, I waited for over an hour before I left. The salesman never even greeted me to tell me he was with another customer. Not returning to this dealership again.
